Erin Cuthbert felt the Blues took a big stride forward in last night’s impressive 4-0 win over Paris FC, and now the midfielder wants to see the team build on that performance as we try and find top form.

Chelsea came into the game off the back of some narrow victories and tight draws, so a comfortable success laden with goals was the order of the day. That was exactly what we got, with Cuthbert completing the scoring midway through the second half to cap a satisfying evening in SW6.

‘I’m happy with the performance and happy we got some goals,’ said Cuthbert.

‘We fully deserved it, albeit we could have been more clinical. As soon as we started winning duels, stopping transitions, keeping the ball in their half, we started building momentum.

‘We had a few tough conversations at the training ground about what we had to do better, a bit of desire, a bit of mentality, that clinical edge we’ve been missing.

‘Over the last week or so we’ve definitely been building some good performances. After a bad performance and result on matchday one, we needed to get a win and set our intentions in the competition - and we did that.’

The highlight of the evening was a first Chelsea goal for new signing Alyssia Thompson, who has already made a serious impression on Cuthbert.

‘She is fast - very, very, very fast! I like playing with her on the left side. We’ve built a bit of a connection.

‘I’m trying to get the ball on the half-turn and I know I’m slipping it in behind. She doesn’t want it to feet, she’s so fast that if she keeps herself onside, she’s always going to get on the end of it.’

Having been at Chelsea for over eight years now, Cuthbert is well aware of the standards expected at the club, and the levels required to win silverware.

With the first chunk of the season complete and an international break up next, the Scot reflected on our start to 2025/26. She expects to see further progress made when when the players reconvene later this month.

‘We’ve got another level in us,’ said Cuthbert.

‘It’s not going to be good enough over the course of the season to just scrape wins. We want to be backing that up with performances. Sonia has been pretty hard with us on that.

‘We want more from each other. I look around me at the people in the dressing room and I know we’ve got more in us. Now we need to focus on the international break and coming back fit and healthy and ready to go in November because the schedule is coming thick and fast.’
