Our young Blues have the opportunity to make a second cup final this season as they take on Nottingham Forest in the semi-final of the FA Youth Cup this evening. Kick-off is 7pm and the game will be held at the City Ground.

With Manchester United already through to the final, following their win over Wolves in the first semi-final, they await the winners of Chelsea and Nottingham Forest.

Chelsea Under-18s have shown different traits in this year’s campaign as they have made it this far. Against Leyton Orient we demonstrated we can put away our chances. In the games against Watford and Liverpool we showed tremendous grit and fight to navigate difficult moments. In the game against Blackpool held at Stamford Bridge, we showed we can handle the pressure of playing at the men’s first team ground.

Now what faces our young Blues is the chance to tie record-holders Manchester United for finals appearances at 14.

With this in mind, young prospect Jude Soonsup-Bell spoke about the pressure facing him and his team-mates and how they can navigate this to be successful.

Staying strong

'I have suffered a number of injuries in the past year and psychologically that can have an effect on any young player, but I am focused on the goal at hand,' he said.

'That is to develop and improve as a player and help make the team the most successful it can possibly be.'

Keeping away from social media

Soonsup-Bell has already made history of his own in this competition against Barnsley, becoming the first Chelsea player to score four in the competition in 59 years. As well as that he made his men’s senior team debut in the 2-0 EFL Cup win over Brentford.

Despite this, he says that he is focused on becoming the best player possible as the ultimate aim is to one day play for the Chelsea men's first team consistently.

'I do not focus on the noise and the social media even though the fans and the praise is great, I cannot let any of it get to my head.

'Taking a step up in age groups has been tough as I have not scored as many goals as I would have expected but I can still make this season a great one from a personal and team perspective if we can rally together and make the final.'

Coaches’ impact

The 18-year-old also made mention of the impact of development squad manager Andy Myers and Under-18s manager Ed Brand, both aiding his development just as they have done for familiar attackers who have won the FA Youth Cup.

'Ed and Andy are amazing, they both overseen Tammy Abraham, Ike Ugbo, Dominic Solanke, Callum Hudson-Odoi at different points and have provided tips for them to be as successful as they are now. I want to follow on in their footsteps.

'I am looking forward to the game against Forest and applying some new techniques that both coaches and their teams have taught me.'

Last time out

Our young Blues went a goal down but recovered to beat Blackpool in the last round of the competition with a hard fought 3-2 win over the Tangerines. Harvey Vale scored one of the goals of the season. let alone the tournament, as we managed to withstand the stiff test the away side provided.

Our opponents

The home side for this fixture come into this game with a six-game unbeaten streak, winning four of those games, so they will prove to be stern opposition regardless of their league position.

In the FA Youth Cup, they have beaten Bristol City, Peterborough United, Cambridge United and Blackburn Rovers to make it to the semis.

Our young Blues are within reach of another final after securing their spot in the Premier League Cup final where they will take on Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Soonsup-Bell despite some minor setbacks will be fit for the game and he mentioned that because of his love for animals, if he did not play football, he would be a zoo-keeper.

For the time being, we will hope that Soonsup-Bell and his team-mates keep out Forest which will help their advancement into the final.
