With his strike against Sunderland, Alejandro Garnacho added his name to the list of players from Argentina who have scored for Chelsea.
The attacking midfielder is the ninth different Argentinian to represent Chelsea and one of three in our current squad alongside Enzo Fernandez and Facundo Buonanotte. Defender Aaron Anselmino, meanwhile, is spending the campaign on loan at Borussia Dortmund this season.
Garnacho's drilled left-footed strike opened the scoring against Sunderland at Stamford Bridge, but it was the Black Cats who left with the points after coming from behind to win 2-1.
Starting with our No.49 as the most recent Argentine Chelsea goalscorer, here are all six to have struck for the Blues so far…
Alejandro Garnacho
Having arrived from Manchester United, Garnacho debuted as a late sub in the draw at Brentford in September.
In his seventh appearance, the winger was released down the left, drove into the box and fired his shot between Robin Roefs' legs.
Facundo Buonanotte
Following his summer loan move from Brighton & Hove Albion, it took Buonanotte just two games to get off the mark.
After making his debut against Brentford in the Premier League, the 20-year-old showed nimble footwork to weave through the box and poke his finish past the Lincoln goalkeeper for our 50th Argentinian goal.
Enzo Fernandez
The second member of the current squad on the list is also second for total goals. Fernandez has 18 to his name so far, needing seven more to match our all-time highest-scoring Argentinian.
He has scored twice already during the current campaign – away to West Ham United and at home to Fulham – setting him well on his way to match last season’s career-best tally of nine goals from midfield.
Gonzalo Higuain
The experienced striker’s spell at Stamford Bridge was short, joining on loan from Juventus for the second half of the 2018/19 season, but he did find the net five times for the Blues.
All those goals came in the Premier League and included a brace on his home debut, when he scored twice in a 5-0 thrashing of Huddersfield Town at the start of February.
Hernan Crespo
Our highest-scoring Argentinian got 25 goals for Chelsea, either side of a season spent on loan at AC Milan.
Crespo couldn’t quite match his prolific record in Italy on English shores, but few strikers to have represented the Blues have possessed his understanding of space and intelligent off-the-ball movement. He was an expert finisher, too.
Having scored a respectable 12 goals in all competitions in his debut campaign, Crespo did one better on his return from Milan, including 10 strikes in the Premier League, which contributed to our successful defence of the Premier League title.
Juan Sebastian Veron
The first Argentinian to score for Chelsea – beating Crespo by one month in 2003 – was Veron.
The playmaker sparked hopes that he could rediscover his best form at Stamford Bridge when he got the opening goal of a 2-1 Premier League win away at Liverpool on his debut, but it wasn’t to be.
That was the only goal he scored for Chelsea before moving back to Italy with Inter Milan at the end of the season.
