Last week, the Foundation hosted its latest community day at Cobham training ground for a number of extra-special guests.

The sun was shining down at Cobham as three of our special guests and their families were treated to an afternoon of exciting activities starting with a warm welcome from the club’s very own matchday presenter, Lee Parker, who was on hand to give a low down on all the latest Chelsea news.

Our guests then took a front row seat to watch the players and coaching team take to the pitch for their latest training session.

Following the session, Blues head coach Graham Potter and his squad spent time chatting and taking photographs with the visitors.

Big Chelsea fan John, who is aged 15, was in attendance with his younger brother and parents. John commented on his afternoon at Cobham: ‘I had surgery back in April and my dad contacted Chelsea and they gave us the tickets for this incredible experience. I’ve been looking forward to it for a while.

‘I found today absolutely fantastic! I met all the players, went to the press conference room and I’ve met the manager, so I’m grateful for all that.’

John was also nervous to meet his favourite player Thiago Silva, adding: ‘I just love him and was really nervous when he came over!’

It was a first visit to Cobham for Mason, aged seven, who also enjoyed watching the players train with his mum and grandfather. There were no surprises who his favourite player was to meet, with Mason Mount topping every answer to every question he gave! His grandfather John summed up what the experience had meant for Mason, adding: ‘It’s just been a great experience, everyone’s been great since we walked through the door.’

The afternoon was also a big hit for Stanley, 12, who attended with his uncle following a special recommendation from the Royal Marsden Hospital.

Stanley enjoyed meeting the squad, commenting: ‘It’s amazing meeting all the players, it’s been great!’ but was quick to add who his favourite meeting of the day was, excitedly shouting ‘Jorginho!’

Following a chat about football boots and after comparing shoe size, Jorginho returned shortly after to Stanley with a very special present, gifting a pair of his own boots that he had trained in.

It was also a busy afternoon for Stanley’s uncle Kevin who was on hand throughout the afternoon to assist with photo taking and autograph signing. Kevin highlighted how important the open training days are for children like Stanley, commenting: ‘It’s been really emotional, an absolutely amazing day.

‘Stan’s had a really difficult time after he lost his dad four years ago and then he just got diagnosed with cancer this year. So to be offered this wonderful gift is just something we as a family will remember for a life time and we are really grateful for everyone who has helped make it happen.’
