It is a conversation which has taken place in pubs and sitting rooms across the country for almost as long as the sport itself has existed. So when we were joined by a couple of Blues from England’s rugby union squad, we thought why not ask them too!
Ollie Lawrence is set to start at centre for England against Ireland this afternoon, while lock Nick Isiekwe is also part of the Six Nations squad.
Last week, along with another England star, Chandler Cunningham-South, they took a break from preparations for the Six Nations to watch our game with Leeds United from the Dugout Club at Stamford Bridge.
Afterwards, we caught up with all three men and asked Ollie and Nick to name their best ever Chelsea six-a-side team.
Goalkeeper
Ollie: The goalkeeper is an easy one.
Nick: Yeah, you already know who’s in goal!
Ollie: Cech!
Nick: Cech.
Defenders
Ollie: What we playing: two at the back, two in the middle and one up front?
Nick: Yeah. So JT (John Terry)…
Ollie: And…
Nick: I would say Carvalho you know. Or David Luiz was good…
Ollie: Yeah. And it would be good to have a quicker player as your centre-back. Like you could have a right wing-back-type player like Reece James.
Nick: Or we could go JT and Gary Cahill as they were great together. But I’ll let you pick.
Ollie: Ok, let’s go JT and Reece.
Nick: Yeah, I like that.
Midfielders
Ollie: I need Kante in there.
Nick: Yeah, you have to have Kante in there.
Nick: This is so hard. You have to have Eden Hazard in there.
Ollie: Yeah.
Nick: Anyone else? I’m trying to think of that Champions League team.
Ollie: What about Joe Cole?
Nick: Well, considering he is over there [working for TNT Sports]. Yeah, we could go Joe Cole! But think it is Kante and Hazard.
Striker
Nick: It has to be Didier Drogba for me.
Ollie: Yeah Drobga. Definitely.
Ollie Lawrence and Nick Isiekwe’s best Chelsea six-a-side team: Petr Cech; John Terry, Reece James; N’Golo Kante, Eden Hazard; Didier Drogba
