With the Club World Cup underway and teams from all over the globe facing off against each other, we have asked members of the Chelsea squad to pick their favourite football XI. Filip Jorgensen is next up…
The rules are simple: you can pick any footballer, from any era, to comprise the team, and in the formation of your choosing.
It doesn't necessarily have to be what they consider to be their 'best' XI, a player could be included because they were a childhood friend or a player they looked up to as a kid. The key word here is 'favourite', meaning it is subjective to each player.
Jorgensen spent much of his youth and early adulthood in Spain, and that period in his life is certainly reflected by his team!
Goalkeeper: Manuel Neuer
When I grew up, he was one of the best in the world; he changed the game of the goalkeeper. He was very offensive and tried to help the offense with the passing in behind and playing out with the feet.
Right-back: Cesar Azpilicueta
He was such a consistent player for Chelsea for so long, and then when I played against him in Spain, he was still a really tough opponent.
Centre-back: Sergio Ramos
He was a beast. He won a lot of games scoring headers. He was one of the best in the world.
Centre-back: Carlos Puyol
He was such a big player for Barcelona and Spain when I was growing up in Spain, and he won so much.
Left-back: Marcelo
I just loved how attacking he was! He drove that Real Madrid team forward.
Central midfielder: Luka Modric
He is such a technical player that was so hard to stop. I played against him three times, I think. The way he controlled the midfield was amazing. He could find all the passes.
Central midfielder: Sergio Busquets
I really like him. His mind was one step ahead of everyone else. His first touch was always good.
Central midfielder: Andres Iniesta
I didn’t play against him, but I saw a lot of him growing up, and he was also really technical.
Right wing: Lionel Messi
He is so naturally gifted. Like Cole Palmer, everything comes to him naturally.
Striker: Cristiano Ronaldo
He worked so hard to be where he is today, and he has scored so many goals.
Left wing: Neymar Jr
He got his skills from playing indoor football in Brazil and he was so natural and exciting to watch.
Any final thoughts?
It’s a very technical team! And I have to say I also really liked Petr Cech as a goalkeeper when I was really young, but my favourite is Neuer. This team would be good to watch, I think!
