It was back out onto the grass for the majority of the Chelsea first-team squad at Cobham today as our preparation ahead of tomorrow's FA Cup tie against Leeds United continued.
Mauricio Pochettino and his players have the opportunity to – at least in part – put the pain of defeat in the Carabao Cup final behind them at Stamford Bridge tomorrow evening.
A strong performance on home soil against old foes Leeds will be required, however, if we are to advance to the last eight of the FA Cup and keep us on track for another appearance at Wembley this season.
‘We are aware of the history [of the fixture] and the players are aware,' said Pochettino at his pre-match press conference. 'I think Leeds are going to have 5,000 fans tomorrow and it’s going to be a good atmosphere.
‘Always the pressure is to win, the pressure is to go through in the competition. That is the most important thing. It is going to be tough tomorrow because of the circumstances but we need to be strong, positive, and have good energy.
'The players want to be involved and want to show that we are in a way that is going to be good for the team and for the club. We are looking forward to the next competition on Wednesday and then of course in the Premier League trying to win as many games as possible.’
Ben Chilwell, who skippered the Blues against Liverpool on Sunday, was involved in today's session, and there was also the welcome sight of club captain Reece James outside as he continues his recovery from injury.
James hasn't featured for the Blues since suffering a hamstring injury at the start of December but has been undertaking individual work at Cobham on his road back to fitness.
Unfortunately, however, James has been joined on the absentee list by Christopher Nkunku. The France international suffered an injury in the Carabao Cup final and faces around four weeks, according to Pochettino.
That will likely result in further minutes for Nicolas Jackson in the matches ahead and the Senegal international was involved in today's workout after a good showing at Wembley on Sunday.
There is better news in defence with both Thiago Silva and Marc Cucurella continuing to be involved in partial team training.
Silva has been ruled out since suffering a groin injury against Crystal Palace two weeks ago while Cucurella has been sidelined since early December after suffering an ankle injury at Everton.
