Mauricio Pochettino and his staff put Chelsea's players through their paces this morning at Cobham as work continued towards Monday's visit of Newcastle United in the Premier League.

Following our trip to Brentford last Saturday – where we shared the points after Axel Disasi's late header – the Blues squad is now fully focused on the next challenge. That arrives in five days when Newcastle journey down to London.

The match will be our first in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge in over a month, but it presents an opportunity to build momentum on home soil after our FA Cup victory over Leeds United last week.

Enzo Fernandez helped turn the tide that night, as he crafted an assist for Conor Gallagher's late winner. The Argentine star was one of those out training under clear skies in Surrey.

That victory over Leeds came too soon for a return for Thiago Silva. However, the Brazilian defender was named on the bench for the draw at Brentford.

The 39-year-old was involved in today's session as he continues to build his way back to full fitness. He is just four appearances shy of 150 in Chelsea blue.

Marc Cucurella was also among the group working at Cobham. The Spaniard returned to the matchday squad against Brentford after almost three months out due to an injury sustained against Everton and is again in contention to feature.

If selected against Newcastle, Cucurella would likely line up alongside good friend Moises Caicedo, who has started all but two of our matches since the beginning of December.

The midfielder's importance to the side under Pochettino is clear and Caicedo believes he has found his true form after a period of adaptation at Stamford Bridge.

‘Personally, now I am feeling good,' he explained. 'I can see my gains and I am playing better and helping the team. That is important for me because when I don’t play well, I get frustrated.

‘It’s my first season at Chelsea so it’s normal that it took some time and I am learning in every game.’

Another key figure for the Blues following a summer transfer has been Cole Palmer, who has already reached double figures in both goals and assists this season.

That form has earned the 21-year-old international recognition, and he has reflected on his key contributions following his switch from Manchester City and discussed his relationship with our head coach.

‘I just felt [in the summer] like I was ready to play football week in, week out and that’s what I’m doing here at Chelsea.

‘The manager has helped me, he’s a top manager and a top person. He speaks to you about anything, like family issues. I think if he knows what's going on off the pitch, it can affect how he is with you on the pitch. He's great at that.'
