Before flying to Charlotte, North Carolina, this afternoon, the Blues undertook their final training session ahead of our Club World Cup round of 16 clash with Benfica.
Enzo Maresca and his Chelsea players have made the Magic City home over the past two days, as we flew down to Florida having secured our place in the knockout stage by defeating ES Tunis on Tuesday.
Hot and humid conditions have greeted the Blues in Miami, although they have been easier to train in compared to the scorching heat experienced in Philadelphia.
Our clash with Benfica will be a reunion for Enzo Fernandez, who joined the Blues from the Portuguese giants in February 2023. And ahead of tomorrow's game at the Bank of America Stadium, Maresca discussed the midfielder's development.
He said: 'Since we started [working together at Chelsea], he is doing very well in all aspects inside the pitch and outside the pitch.
'This season, he struggled a little bit in the beginning in the way we wanted to play, but he is doing fantastic in terms of the number of goals and assists. This is what we want from our attacking players.
'I prefer that the attacking players score ten to twelve goals each rather than one player with 40 goals. Enzo, this season his contribution has been top, and next season it will be even better.'
Benfica claimed their place in the round of 16 by finishing top of Group C; that feat is all the more impressive when considered that they overcame Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.
It's why Maresca is expecting a difficult game for the Blues, and insists the contest will be decided by the finest of margins.
'I think Benfica – not only in this competition but always – are a big club in Europe. In the last game, they beat Bayern Munich, which shows how good they are and what they are able to do.
'I think it’s going to be a balanced game. In this tournament, at this stage and these conditions, it’s difficult to see a big difference between teams. So I’m quite sure it’s going to be a balanced game, a tough game, and in this kind of game, the small details are very important.'
After training, the Blues returned to our team hotel in Miami for lunch. We then began our journey to Charlotte, which hosts our round of 16 encounter.
The Blues face Benfica at the Bank of America Stadium, and kick-off is at 9pm BST/4pm ET. You can follow the game live on the Chelsea Official App and Website, with live updates before, during, and after the 90 minutes.
