Monday night's defeat to Ipswich Town was quickly put to the back of the Chelsea's players' minds as they took to the training pitches at Cobham this morning ahead of Saturday's London derby with Crystal Palace.

Those who started at Portman Road yesterday were out on the pitch as part of their recovery work following our ninth game in December.

Malo Gusto was one of those who came off the bench in Suffolk and he was pictured being put through his paces by Enzo Maresca and his staff.

Reece James was back in the matchday squad for the first time since November 10 at Ipswich.

Our captain may not have come on but the sight of him on the bench at Portman Road and being involved in full training at Cobham is one which is welcomed by Blues fans.

Maresca may have been disappointed Chelsea were unable to secure all three points last night but he also acknowledged games like this and the runs of form we currently find ourselves in - with one point from a possible nine - are just a part of football.

He said: 'We expected this kind of moment during the season because we know that this kind of moment belongs to the football. It is almost impossible to have a season where you do not have a moment like now for us.

'But at the same time, not one of us in this room expected us to be where we are now. This means and shows that we are in the right direction, as I've said many times, but also shows that we are far from competing and the consistency to be there with the best teams in England.

'Again, I think we have to be satisfied where we are but at the same time, we have to know we need to do many things better.'

Tyrique George missed the trip to Suffolk with fierce competition in the wide areas and the players' workload being managed. He was just one of those putting in the work at Cobham on Tuesday morning.

Chelsea are currently fourth in the table, one point below Arsenal in third - with the Gunners playing tonight - and two behind Nottingham Forest in second.

As for Crystal Palace, the south Londoners are 15th in the table, 15 points below the Blues and five above the relegation places.
