There was a new face in training today as Joao Pedro joined the Chelsea squad as our preparations for Friday's Club World Cup quarter-final tie against Palmeiras continued.

The Brazilian's transfer from Brighton and Hove Albion was completed this morning, and the 23-year-old got straight to work at our training base in Miami.

'I grew up watching the Premier League, and Chelsea were a club that won trophies,' Joao Pedro said after completing his switch. 'So, when you join Chelsea, you can only think one thing: to win trophies.

'Every competition, you have to think, "I play for Chelsea and that is my ambition."'

The forward is available for selection and would make his Chelsea debut if selected against Palmeiras, who we face in Philadelphia.

A place in the semi-finals is up for grabs on Friday evening. And if we were to progress, we would either face Brazilian club Fluminense, who count Thiago Silva among their ranks, or Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal, whose squad includes former Blue Kalidou Koulibaly.

But no player in the Chelsea squad is looking beyond Palmeiras, as Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall explained after today's session.

He said: ‘Nobody is overlooking Palmeiras and we have seen South American teams in this tournament being really strong.

'It’s a challenge I’m looking forward to and the lads are also looking forward to. So we will make sure we’re all ready for it.'

The Blues will train for the final time at our base in Miami tomorrow morning, which you can watch on the Official Chelsea Website and Chelsea Official App.

We will then make our return to Philadelphia, where Enzo Maresca will undertake his pre-match press conference, which will also be streamed live across club channels.
