Romeo Lavia and Benoit Badiashile continued their individual training out on the grass at Cobham today on a scorching afternoon in Surrey.

It was a significantly smaller group than usual being put through their paces because of the international break. Only those not called up, or not injured, were involved.

The good news is that Lavia and Badiashile's return to action is getting closer, along with Armando Broja's.

Lavia has not featured since signing from Southampton, with Mauricio Pochettino explaining he needed 'a few weeks to be ready to be involved with the team'.

Badiashile has been out since the end of last season with a hamstring problem but he is progressing well, with Pochettino hopeful he can be involved again some point soon.

Broja was also involved at Cobham with his return from the ACL injury he suffered last December being carefully managed.

Raheem Sterling was one of the reduced group at Cobham today following his surprising non-inclusion in the England squad. Pochettino spoke about that decision on Friday afternoon.

‘What we want to do is provide better tools and we are going to push even more the players who didn’t receive the call from the national team today, so next month they have the possibility to be called up,' he said.

‘We want to push Raheem even more, to try to convince the manager. I’m sure he is going to work hard and it’s going to be motivation for the next month. He needs to keep working, scoring and assisting and helping the team win points.'

Thiago Silva is not on international duty during this window, although the man with 113 caps to his name is still available for selection for Brazil.

He joined Sterling and Robert Sanchez in searing late summer heat in Surrey.
