New signing Pedro Neto joined his Chelsea team-mates on the Cobham training pitch for the first time as preparations for our opening competitive fixture of 2024/25 got under way.
Having completed his move from Wolverhampton Wanderers to Chelsea on Sunday, Pedro Neto got his first taste of playing with his Blues team-mates on Tuesday, after the rest of the squad had been given a day off to recover from the weekend's friendly draw with Inter Milan, which Neto watched from the stands.
The Portuguese winger was given a friendly welcome to Cobham by his fellow Blues, as he stepped out onto the training pitch for his first team session since swapping the west Midlands for west London.
Speaking before that first training session, Neto was clearly eager to get started.
‘I know the history the club has,' he said. 'I’m really looking forward to meeting my team-mates, meeting the staff and meeting everyone else, because I want to make history with the club.
‘I want to do my best, help the team achieve their goals, and put Chelsea where they deserve to be: at the top.'
One of his new team-mates, Lesley Ugochukwu, was among those involved on Tuesday, in the thick of things again after his late equaliser - the midfielder's first-ever goal at Stamford Bridge - secured a 1-1 draw with Inter in our final friendly before the competitive action begins.
That first match of the new season will see us back at the Bridge, this time to host Premier League title holders Manchester City on Sunday.
Cole Palmer will be hoping to be involved against his former club, having returned from a later summer break due to his run to the Euro 2024 final with England in time to come off the bench against Inter, and having been named on the six-man shortlists for the PFA Players' Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year yesterday.
Elsewhere, head coach Enzo Maresca had a full complement of goalkeepers to work with ahead of our opening game of the season, with Djordje Petrovic back in action following injury, alongside Robert Sanchez - who got the nod against Inter - and summer signing Filip Jorgensen.
