Mauricio Pochettino led training at Cobham today as our final preparations for the visit of Sheffield United in the Premier League were completed.

The Chelsea head coach took to the training pitches at our base in Surrey and ensured standards remained high as we undertook our final session ahead of tomorrow's clash at Stamford Bridge.

'Most important for us is working on our mentality, our way of playing, finding different solutions, and being more solid and consistent,' explained Pochettino in his pre-match press conference.

'The most important thing tomorrow in this aspect is the way we are going to approach the game. The signal is that I'm losing my voice as we were shouting a lot [today in training]. It's true!'

With Robert Sanchez sidelined with a knee injury, goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic is expected to come into the starting XI for his full Chelsea debut.

The 24-year-old arrived at Stamford Bridge in the summer from MLS side New England Revolution, where he impressed under the tutelage of former Blues goalkeeper Kevin Hitchcock.

‘As a person, he is such a great lad,' Hitchcock explained after Petrovic completed his switch. 'Everybody liked him. He is very easy to work with, doesn’t have any issues, always has a smile on his face, and wants to be the very best goalkeeper he can be.

'His performances every week were outstanding and he got better and better. From there, his confidence grew and we continued to work hard with him.'

Petrovic will not be the only new face in the Chelsea starting XI. Reece James and Marc Cucurella also sustained injuries at Goodison Park last weekend and will need to be replaced.

'For him, it is difficult to accept,' Pochettino said on James's latest setback. 'He feels very disappointed, very frustrated.

'Now we need to be careful in the way that we are going to talk, but also assess and try to find the best solution for him to be consistent and try to forget the injuries of the past.'

Positive steps were being taken in today's session at Cobham. Malo Gusto was back in full training while Romeo Lavia, who is yet to make his debut after a summer switch from Southampton, was in partial team training.

However, undoubtedly the best news ahead of tomorrow's game is that Christopher Nkunku is ready to return to the matchday squad after his recovery from a knee injury sustained in our final pre-season fixture.

‘He can be involved,' Pochettino explained during his pre-match press conference

'That is very good news for us because by being involved tomorrow and being in the squad, he can start to feel the competition, to feel the Premier League, and be with his team-mates for the first time after pre-season.

'Now we need to be calm and quiet because we don’t want to put all the pressure on him. Now he needs to evolve, know the Premier League, know the competition.

'But it’s a big motivation also for us, for his team-mates and for our fans to see a player who should be important for us in the squad for the first time of the season.’
