The Chelsea squad were back at Cobham this morning having been afforded Tuesday off following the wonderful win at Tottenham.

Gym work and recovery was the order of the day after the exertions of a chaotic London derby. There was also the pleasant sight of Christopher Nkunku upping his recovery from injury, with the French international pictured working on the bike alongside Raheem Sterling (top).

Mauricio Pochettino is likely to give an update on Nkunku at his press conference on Friday to preview the next tough assignment that awaits: Manchester City.

Nicolas Jackson will go into that fixture buoyed by the first hat-trick of his professional career. He now has six Chelsea goals to his name as he makes the adaption to English football.

‘I am happy for him because we know that when strikers don’t score, they suffer,’ Pochettino said after his treble at Spurs.

‘He is really young, arrived at the club this summer, and it’s not easy to play for Chelsea. It’s the history, winning, lifting trophies. That’s why as a coaching staff we need to provide the tools and be calm with the way we assess things.

'The confidence is there and I am so happy for him because he deserves the boost.’

Reece James came through his first Premier League start since the opening day unscathed.

The skipper played 77 minutes at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium before being replaced by Malo Gusto. He was pictured undertaking important recovery work at Cobham as he seeks to start back-to-back matches for the first time this season.

Raheem Sterling will come up against his former club on Sunday. The winger played over 300 times for Man City, scoring 131 goals between 2015 and 2022.

He heads into the game in sparkling form and will be desperate to get one over his old side for the first time in Chelsea blue.

Conor Gallagher, meanwhile, is possibly still getting over the dramatic Monday night football judging from his quotes post-match.

‘It was the weirdest game I’ve played in I think,’ said Gallagher. ‘It was the craziest game, but in the end, I’m buzzing with the win, which was all we needed. So it was a strange game but a good one.’

Having recently welcomed his compatriot Benoit Badiashile back onto the pitch, Axel Disasi will be hoping it’s not too long before another Frenchman, Nkunku, joins him in the starting XI.

We finish with this eye-catching picture of Axel and the Chelsea lion painted on the wall in the gym.
