Chelsea made it four wins in a row on Sunday, but we have already turned our attention to the next game, and the chance to book our place in a European final.
Our third consecutive victory in the Premier League arrived when we defeated newly-crowned champions Liverpool in a fantastic atmosphere at Stamford Bridge.
Enzo Fernandez fired us into the lead early on with a composed finish from Pedro Neto’s low cross, before Cole Palmer’s skill and Noni Madueke’s determination forced an own goal by the Reds.
The visitors pulled one back, but Palmer then restored our two-goal advantage from the penalty spot with the last kick of the game.
That helped consolidate our position in the UEFA Champions League qualification spots as we compete for a place in Europe’s top competition for next season. In the meantime, though, the Blues’ main focus returns to our current continental campaign.
Following last week’s win in Sweden, Chelsea go into the second leg of our UEFA Conference League semi-final with Djurgarden holding a 4-1 lead to build on at the Bridge this Thursday.
However, our head start going into the second leg doesn’t mean there will be any drop in the intensity of training this week. As Enzo Maresca and his squad start to prepare for round two with Djurgarden, our head coach had already warned against risking a repeat of the way our quarter-final tie against Legia Warsaw concluded in west London.
‘We cannot allow ourselves to drop because it’s always complicated,’ said Maresca. ‘The message is that against Legia Warsaw we won 3-0 away but then at home we struggled.
‘So that was a good experience and for sure in the next leg at home we need to finish the job and hopefully we can reach the final.
‘Absolutely it’s not over. We have the experience from Legia Warsaw. It was a good experience because we can learn from that. We need to finish the job at home.’
The preparations for our semi-final will continue on Wednesday, when you can watch Enzo Maresca and one of his players taking part in the pre-match press conference at midday, followed by the first 15 minutes of training at 3pm, all live on the official Chelsea website and app.
Westview tickets for the home leg of our UEFA Conference League semi-final are on sale for £60pp, available exclusively to CFC Members. Hospitality packages are available on general sale here, starting from £160pp.
