The hard work continued at Cobham today as preparations ramped up for our next Premier League assignment against Wolves.

It was a murky and chilly morning in Surrey and before heading out onto the grass the players underwent a series of exercises in the gym.

Among the group training today was Trevoh Chalobah, who earlier this week was recalled from his loan at Crystal Palace.

Later in the day, after Chalobah had been given a warm welcome on his return to the squad, Maresca explained why the defender is back at Chelsea.

‘We have a few injuries, as you know, so we were looking for a solution and we thought the best solution would be to call back Trev,’ said Maresca.

‘Firstly, because we know him very well, and secondly because we know he can help us. So we went for that solution.

‘He knows the house better than me!’ the head coach added. ‘First of all, he was very happy, I could see his face and I had a chat with him a few days ago and again this morning. You can see he is happy and we are happy that he is here.’

Maresca confirmed a quartet of players – Cole Palmer, Enzo Fernandez, Levi Colwill and Romeo Lavia – did not train after picking up slight knocks in the Bournemouth game.

They will be monitored in the coming days to see if they can feature against Wolves.

One player who was in the thick of things today was Reece James. The skipper will be hoping to build on the brilliant free-kick that earned us a point against Bournemouth by accruing more minutes and making another decisive contribution on Monday.

The Blues would love to repeat the scoreline from the reverse fixture back in August, when Noni Madueke netted a hat-trick in a big 6-2 win. However, Maresca knows it will be a very different Wolves side we face, with Vitor Pereira now in charge of the Old Gold.

'It's not the same manager, it’s not the same idea, you can see, so I don’t think the last game there can be important for us or them,’ Maresca stated.

'It’s a new game, it’s a new manager, it’s a different way to attack, a different way to defend. Hopefully, we can be ready the same way we were for the last game and get the three points.'
