Chelsea will face Manchester United in this season's Women's League Cup final at Ashton Gate on Sunday afternoon. Here are five interesting facts you need to know ahead of this weekend's clash...
New final opponent
Man United have never reached the Women's League Cup final, and will be the eighth different team to contest a final since the competition was founded in 2011.
Sunday's match will be the third meeting between Chelsea and Manchester United in the Women’s League Cup, though, with the Blues winning 1-0 in 2019/20 and 3-1 in 2021/22, both in semi-final matches.
Successful record
The Blues have won 13 of our last 15 meetings with Manchester United across all competitions and have only lost once in that time.
Our most recent success was in our last match, as Naomi Girma scored in extra time to seal a 2-1 victory in the fifth round of the FA Cup last month.
Frequent flyers
Not only are Chelsea holders of the competition, but this will be our seventh Women’s League Cup final, with only Arsenal (10) having contested more.
After we didn’t reach the final in any of the first eight editions since the Women's League Cup began in 2011, we have now made each of the last seven consecutive finals of the competition.
Watch out for Kaptein
Wieke Kaptein has scored in both of Chelsea’s two Women’s League Cup games this season, and the 20-year-old could be the third player to score in the quarter-final, semi-final and final stages of the competition in the same campaign.
The two players who have already managed that feat are Kaptein's Chelsea team-mate Sam Kerr in 2022/23 and Arsenal’s Vivianne Miedema in 2017/18.
Bompastor breaking records
Sonia Bompastor will be aiming to win her third cup competition with Chelsea, with Emma Hayes (eight) and Nick Cushing (five) the only managers to have won more in the WSL era.
Only Cushing, Shelley Kerr and Laura Harvey have won each of their first three finals in all competitions as a Women’s Super League manager, and Bompastor would join that list with a win at Ashton Gate on Sunday.
