Here, we look at which of the Blues' players are must-haves, who the best value-for-money picks are and why Joao Pedro (£7.7m) is Chelsea’s most popular player.

The must-haves

It’s all about the Blues’ attack this week, with Chelsea scoring a whopping 16 goals in five matches under Xabi Alonso. Both Morgan Rogers (£7.6m) and Cole Palmer (£9.7m) feature in the top five most-transferred players ahead of Gameweek 4. Combined, the duo have been bought in over one million times by Fantasy managers.

Morgan Rogers continued his superb start to life in a Chelsea shirt with another attacking return, this time a well-taken goal against Arsenal. The Englishman followed this up with four assists off the bench in the 6-3 victory over Leeds United on Wednesday. No Blues player has registered more expected goal involvements (xGI) or created more big chances so far this season. Rogers is yet to blank in Fantasy this season and rose in price earlier in the week, with Fantasy managers valuing his consistency. 

Slightly more expensive but no less popular is Cole Palmer. Chelsea’s number 10 netted twice in four minutes in the aforementioned midweek victory and looks back to his best after an injury-hit 25/26 campaign. As a result, he looks set to be one of the most-captained players in the Gameweek.

A penalty in the League Cup has only strengthened his appeal, with managers valuing the apparent confirmation that he remains on spot-kick duty for this season. Palmer leads the way among his Blues team-mates for shots (12) and shots on target (5). 

Most popular Chelsea player of the week

Unsurprisingly, Joao Pedro (£7.7m) is the highest-owned Chelsea player in FPL and indeed in the entire game. The Brazilian currently sits in just under 72% of teams. Over 200,000 managers have transferred in the Brazilian ahead of Saturday’s GW4 deadline. Pedro is the third-highest-scoring forward in Fantasy, despite scoring a very unfortunate own goal against Brighton.

Among Blues players, Pedro leads the way for big chances (3), penalty box touches (21) and expected goals (1.87). This continues a trend from last season when Chelsea’s number nine led the way for all three of those metrics.

Plenty of managers have adopted this strategy, with it proving popular for those playing the Free Hit or Wildcard chip in Gameweek 4. While Hull City are yet to concede a goal, the underlying data suggests they have been slightly fortunate with an expected goals conceded (xGC) figure of over five. 

Best value-for-money Chelsea pick

In defence, Jorrel Hato (£4.5m) started once again as the left wing-back and was rested in midweek against Leeds United. The Dutchman picked up his second assist of the season so far and has created two big chances from his more advanced position.

Owned by fewer than 1% of Fantasy managers, the Dutchman is the cheapest way into the Chelsea backline and has had more penalty box touches (5) than any of his fellow Blues defenders. Hato looks to be the best Chelsea defensive asset with Hull City ranking bottom for xG so far this season.

The opposite wing-back, Pedro Neto (£6.5m), has impressed on the right in recent matches, scoring the Blues’ second goal against Brighton and netting in the Carabao Cup - as well as being unfortunate to hit the post at the Emirates with a first-half effort.

In Gameweek 3, no Blues player had more penalty box touches (6) than Neto. The Portugal international is one to watch as he is the cheapest Blues attacker in FPL to have started a league game so far.

Captain's pick

Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro will likely be very heavily captained this weekend. Outside of Chelsea, Alexander Isak (£9.1m) looks like a strong option for Liverpool's home match against Fulham. The Swede scored twice last time out against Ipswich and has netted three times already in 26/27.

No team has conceded more big chances than Fulham, while they also rank second-worst for expected goals conceded (xGC). Expect plenty of opportunities for points for Liverpool attackers at Anfield this Saturday.

As usual, Erling Haaland (£15.5m) is a key contender in the captaincy conversation. Manchester City travel to Old Trafford on Sunday, a fixture that Haaland enjoys. In seven Manchester derbies in the Premier League, the Norwegian has racked up eight goals and three assists.

No player has registered more shots on target (8), big chances (5) and penalty box touches (21) so far this season than the Norwegian, who scored and claimed maximum bonus points against Coventry City in Gameweek 3.
