Chelsea Football Club is pleased to confirm that Academy goalkeeper Freddy Bernal has signed his first professional contract with the Blues.
The 17-year-old goalkeeper joined Chelsea at Under-8 level and has progressed through the Academy ranks at Cobham.
Ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, Bernal signed his scholarship at Stamford Bridge and has since established himself as a regular starter for Hassan Sulaiman’s Under-18s. He has also gained valuable exposure at the next level, featuring in the Under-21s' matchday squad across both the Premier League 2 and the EFL Vertu Trophy.
His development has extended onto the European stage, where he delivered standout performances in the UEFA Youth League, contributing to impressive victories over Bayern Munich, Benfica and Ajax.
Bernal’s form has also been recognised internationally, earning him regular call-ups to England youth camps. He made his England Under-18s debut in September, marking the occasion with a win over Uzbekistan.
Congratulations, Freddy!
