It was on this day two years that Cole Palmer opened his Chelsea account by scoring a penalty away to Burnley. It proved the start of something very special.
Palmer had joined the Blues from Manchester City a few weeks earlier. He made his first Premier League start for us in a 2-0 win at Fulham, and a few days later kept his place as we dismantled Burnley 4-1 at Turf Moor after going behind.
Palmer's spot-kick put us 2-1 in front and it was the first sign of his ice-cold ability from 12 yards out. He subsequently netted fearless penalties against Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester City in three of our next four games, endearing himself to the Chelsea faithful in the process.
The attacker went on to enjoy an all-timer of a campaign, which you can relive in the video below. Palmer netted 22 Premier League goals and laid on 11 more. In all competitions, he finished with 25 goals and 15 assists for us in one of the greatest breakout seasons in Chelsea history.
Two years of Cole goals later, he has gone from strength to strength, establishing himself in the England set-up and widely regarded as one of the best attacking players in the game.
All hail King Cole!
