On the day that Olivier Giroud turns 39 years old, we look back at two of his greatest moments at Chelsea, in the words of the man himself.
The striker's three-and-a-half seasons at Stamford Bridge brought plenty of success, lifting three trophies with the Blues, and he always seemed to save his best for Europe. Only Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard have scored more than Giroud's 18 European goals for Chelsea.
Two of those three trophies came on the continental scene, being part of the sides which won the UEFA Europa League in 2017/18 and the UEFA Champions League in 2020/21. In both of those triumphant campaigns, Giroud also achieved the impressive feat of scoring a perfect hat-trick - defined by netting one goal with each of his head, left foot and right foot.
Not long after the second of those, in December 2020, when he actually went one better and got a fourth goal in the same game from the penalty spot, the Frenchman sat down to watch both hat-tricks and talk us through his goals.
The first of his perfect hat-tricks came when we travelled away to Dynamo Kyiv in the last 16 of the Europa League on a freezing evening in March 2019.
We already held a 3-0 lead from the first leg at the Bridge, but there was no holding back as Giroud gave us the lead just five minutes in, and made it two before half-time. The French international then got his third in the second half, on our way to a comprehensive 5-0 win on the day, and 8-0 on aggregate.
Oli was at it again on the road in 2020, when we travelled to Sevilla in the Champions League group stage. He wasted no time on this occasion either, putting us ahead inside 10 minutes, but it remained 1-0 until the second half, when the floodgates opened.
Then he got two more, before regular penalty taker Jorginho graciously handed Giroud the ball for our late spot-kick, allowing him to finish off a remarkable four-goal haul. It's just a pity there weren't any Chelsea supporters inside the stadium to witness it, due to Covid restrictions.
