Conor Gallagher was delighted to help Chelsea return to winning ways and highlighted ‘amazing player’ Cole Palmer’s influence as being key to beating Sheffield United.

Palmer scored and assisted in the 2-0 home win over the Blades, with Nicolas Jackson the other Chelsea player on target, and stand-in captain Gallagher had nothing but praise for the impact our summer addition from Manchester City had.

Before talking about Palmer’s afternoon’s work, first Conor reflected on the three points and explained how it felt to get back to winning ways in front of our home fans after some difficult results recently.

‘It feels really good!’ Gallagher said of returning to winning ways. ‘I think it was really important coming into the game to get the three points and to show a good performance.

‘We did that and hopefully the victory now will give us the confidence to build on going forward.

‘We had to be patient to get that breakthrough and I think you have to give credit to the opposition.

‘Sheffield United made it tough for us and they were really solid defensively, especially in the first half. There have been many games like that this season, where we’ve struggled to break teams down so we had to remain patient.

‘Once we got the goal, I think we were in control from that point and in the end I’d consider it a really professional performance.’

Palmer will no doubt take the headlines for another stunning display in Chelsea blue, scoring and assisting in the win over the Blades.

Gallagher, who again wore the armband in the absence of Reece James and Ben Chilwell, labelled the attacker as ‘great team-mate’ and wants to see more of the same from him going forward.

‘Cole is a great player and his talent is there for all to see,’ added Conor. ‘He’s amazing on the ball and he’s done brilliant for us all season.

‘He was involved with both goals, scoring a fantastic one himself and those goals and assists are what we need from him. We’re really happy with his input and he’s a great team-mate.’

The burning question left to answer was simple. Will we see Conor follow Cole’s lead and add goals to his game this season?

‘Of course, I want to score goals and that’s something I want to add to my game this season,’ answered the midfielder, with a smile.

‘It’s frustrating that I haven’t scored yet this season but as long as I’m helping the team to victories, then that’s all that matters. I’m sure the goals will come soon!’
