It is match day for Chelsea at the FIFA Club World Cup which would normally mean a quiet morning for the squad. However, on this occasion there were plenty of smiles all round when Edouard Mendy arrived from Senegal and injured Ben Chilwell also joined up with his team-mates having travelled from the UK.
For Mendy, fresh from conquering Africa in a football sense, there was a guard of honour for him from the players before he joined them on the regular matchday walk near the team hotel.He goes into the squad for the Club World Cup, unlike Chilwell who is ruled out for the season following knee surgery, but the England international has flown out to be with his colleagues as they aim to make Chelsea history, and will be a beneficiary of the warm weather in the UAE too.The best images from today’s new arrivals can be enjoyed in our gallery below…
