Chelsea had to dig deep in our last away game of 2025, but travelled back to London with a valuable point after fighting back from two goals down to draw with Newcastle United.
Despite a difficult start which continued throughout the first-half, leaving us to enter the break with a two-goal deficit after Nick Woltemade struck twice for the home side, the Blues showed real character to fight back strongly after the break.
We had lost on our last four visits to St James' Park, one of the Premier League's toughest away trips, but we would not be denied a share of the spoils on this occasion.
First Reece James whipped in a pinpoint free-kick off the inside of the post, after Cole Palmer's drive forward had been halted by a foul. Then Robert Sanchez spotted an opportunity to launch a counter with a quick kick upfield, and Joao Pedro did rest, leaving Malick Thiaw in his dust to race away and beat Aaron Ramsdale in the Newcastle net with a composed finish.
A tense ending to the match saw Moises Caicedo and Alejandro Garnacho both go close to a winner for Chelsea, while James produced a brilliant challenge to deny Newcastle's Harvey Barnes, resulting in the two teams sharing the points at St James' Park.
