A moment of fortune might have helped us on our way but Chelsea secured a deserved 2-1 victory over Palmeiras to book our place in the Club World Cup semi-finals. Here are some of the standout pictures from Friday's game.
Chelsea were excellent in the first half as we dominated possession and created a number of dangerous opportunities.
We only managed the one goal, though, through Cole Palmer and Palmeiras made us pay early in the second period thanks to a goal by Estevao Willian - the 18-year-old Brazil international who is joining Chelsea after this tournament.
Palmeiras were much improved in the second half and it was end-to-end following the restart. Ultimately, the Blues got the second we arguably deserved over the 90 minutes when Malo Gusto's low cross was deflected towards the goal and keeper Weverton was unable to adjust his body in time to stop the ball.
Chelsea will now take on Fluminense in the semi-final on Tuesday as we face a reunion with Blues legend Thiago Silva.
