The final day of the season is always special but there was extra significance to Saturday's match at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea fans said goodbye to two of our greatest ever players.
Players and staff often say 'we are approaching this match like any other game' but in truth, Saturday afternoon's clash with Manchester United was always going to be extra special.
It started even before a ball was kicked as Millie Bright became the latest player to be immortalised at Stamford Bridge as she joined our legends wall. Along with her family and friends, she was joined at the unveiling by current head coach Sonia Bompastor and her predecessor Emma Hayes, who has her own plaque opposite the famous Shed Wall.
It was also announced that the Sensory Room at Stamford Bridge would be renamed The Bright Room in recognition of the defender's work both on and off the pitch.
There was still time ahead of the match to present Lauren James with her Chelsea Women's Player of the Season Award for 2025/26 and to also celebrate Erin Cuthbert reaching 300 Blues appearances against Man City the week before.
When it came around to kick-off, it was a teary Bright who led out the 11 Chelsea players who would be lining up against Man United, following the defender's recent retirement.
The XI included Sam Kerr, who herself is calling time on her Chelsea career at the conclusion of her contract in the summer, and it was fitting that the Australian would ultimately prove to be the match-winner.
Kerr's stunning volley just after the half-hour mark made it 116 goals in 158 appearances for the Blues, making her Chelsea Women's joint top goalscorer alongside Fran Kirby.
And at the full time whistle, the whole squad did a lap of appreciation, as the players and fans thanked each other for their efforts during the course of the 2025/26 campaign.
