It was a flying start for Chelsea wearing our brand new third kit as we demolished West Ham United with a performance and a result our class of 2005 would have been proud of.
Our new Nike T90 third shirt was released on Thursday and Blues fans didn’t have to wait long to see it in action as we looked right at home in it at the London Stadium 24 hours later, swatting West Ham aside. You can get your hands on the new shirt here!
The shirt is inspired by the momentous 2004/05 campaign, when Chelsea were crowned Premier League champions for the very first time, setting a record points total in the process.
That season our away kit was a black and silver number that was first worn away to Birmingham City, and three days later in a London derby at Crystal Palace when Didier Drogba opened his account for the club in a 2-0 win.
We only lost one league game in 2004/05 and that was away at Man City while the kit was worn. More memorably, it was donned during the infamous ‘Battle of Blackburn’, when Jose Mourinho’s side proved we could handle the physicality of the Premier League during a gritty 1-0 win at Ewood Park.
In an iconic moment, the players took their shirts off after the game and threw them to the travelling Chelsea support as instructed to by Mourinho.
Here we have picked out a selection of photographs from that brilliant title-winning campaign, the legacy of which will live on this season when we wear our Nike T90 shirt on the road.
