It was a dream come true for Tyrique George to score his first UEFA Champions League goal against Ajax and the winger credited the attacking freedom provided by Enzo Maresca for our big win over the Dutch side.

The Academy graduate was one of three teenagers to get his name on the score sheet for the Blues – something no other club has ever achieved in the Champions League – alongside Marc Guiu and Estevao Willian, with further goals by Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez as we strolled to an emphatic 5-1 win over Ajax.

It was the 19-year-old’s first goal in the Champions League and fifth overall for our senior team – each of them in a different competition – helping make it back-to-back European wins for the club he first joined at Under-8s level.

It’s clear he’s enjoying life with the Blues after another memorable Champions League night at Stamford Bridge.

‘It was a really good night,’ said George after the final whistle in west London. ‘I’m really happy to score my first Champions League goal and it was a great win.

‘I’m just really happy to get the win. We got so many goals, we played well, we had fun out there as well. It’s the Champions League, so we had fun, it’s good.

‘We’re all young and having fun. We’re having fun on the pitch and that’s it. The manager tells us to have fun and really be free when we’re in attacking areas, and that’s what we showed last night.’

George was introduced by Maresca from the bench at half-time with Chelsea leading 4-1 against an Ajax side which had been reduced to 10 men by a red card for Kenneth Taylor, following a dangerous challenge on Facundo Buonanotte.

Our young winger wasted no time in making his mark on the game, combining with fellow half-time substitute Andrey Santos to hit the back of the net less than three minutes into the second period.

‘I was just itching to get on and try and score,’ Tyrique admitted. ‘That’s what I did, so I’m happy.

‘I kind of just saw the ball lying there, so I thought let me get onto it and just hit it, and it went in.

‘It’s an amazing feeling. I’ve wanted it ever since I was eight years old, to score in the Champions League. It’s what dreams are made of.’

Wednesday’s victory makes it four in a row for Chelsea cross all competitions, with the Champions League wins over Ajax and Benfica coming either side of the Premier League triumphs against Liverpool and Nottingham Forest.

‘I think it’s just down to working day-by-day in training. I think that’s what’s making us win, so we just need to keep going and keep going,’ George concluded.

‘We just want to keep going, keep improving and keep getting wins.’
