Naomi Girma expressed her pride and delight following our commanding 3-0 victory over Manchester United in the Women’s FA Cup final at Wembley on Sunday.

In what was a dominant display from Sonia Bompastor’s side, goals from Sandy Baltimore and Catarina Macario secured Chelsea’s sixth Women’s FA Cup triumph in front of an atmospheric crowd at the home of English football.

For Girma, who joined the club in January, it was a moment to savour following a successful start to life at the Blues. ‘I didn’t expect this in my first season at Chelsea,’ Naomi opened.

‘There were flows in the game, but we held strong and had energy throughout the match. We were able to get three good goals in.

‘I know that Chelsea have a winning culture, but I think to win a trophy at Wembley is amazing – and to play here and have fans cheering the team I’m on is amazing. We heard the fans all game long, and it was an amazing atmosphere.’

It has been a whirlwind first campaign in England for the American defender, who has had to settle quickly, but has been pleased to cap it all off with a trophy at Wembley.

‘For me, the last few months have been about finding my feet, trying to get fit and get healthy and get in with the group,’ she said.

‘I think these last six months have been a reflection of the whole season and how hard the team has worked to get into this position.’

Naomi has enjoyed integrating into the squad and her surroundings, and has been particularly impressed by our winning mentality, which has continued to be nurtured under Bompastor.

She added: ‘I think the culture is really good, really welcoming since the beginning, and I’ve felt I’ve been supported.

‘I think everyone just wants to win and play well. I think that’s been a great part of it.’
