There were a number of Chelsea Academy players in action in the first matches of the international break, with wins all around as Genesis Antwi and Tyrique George netted their first goals for their countries.

England Under-18s are spending the international break in Spain, competing in the Under-18 Super Cup tournament. The first of their three fixtures ended in a 2-1 win over Czechia this afternoon, with no less than seven Chelsea youngsters involved.

Ishe Samuels-Smith, Reiss Denny, Josh-Kofi Acheampong, Harrison Murray-Campbell, Michael Golding - who captained the side - and Tyrique George were all named in the starting line-up, with Kiano Dyer joining them from the bench in the second half.

It was George who ultimately secured the win for the Young Lions when he scored their second 10 minutes before half-time. The winger has been in fine form in front of goal for Chelsea this season, netting 10 times across our Under-18s and Under-21s, and got his first for England at this level when he finished confidently at the end of a fine solo run.

Elsewhere, the second group stage of qualifying for this summer’s European Under-17 Championship got under way, with Genesis Antwi helping Sweden get off to a winning start with a goal and an assist as they came from behind to beat Bulgaria 2-1.

The left-back had already issued a warning in the first half when he cut in onto his right foot and smashed an effort off the inside of the post. However, with Sweden trailing after the break, Antwi reacted quickly to pull things level by scrambling in at the back post following a corner.

It looked like it still might not be Sweden’s day when they had two further goals ruled out for offside, but then in added time Antwi picked out striker Ake Andersson in the box with a low cross to give the home side the victory.

England Under-17s also got off to a good start in this stage of qualifying thanks to a 5-1 home win over Northern Ireland, with Chelsea duo Ollie Harrison and Ryan McAidoo both coming on as substitutes.

The Young Lions continue their qualification campaign against Hungary on Friday afternoon, before Sweden face Wales on Saturday morning.
