Chelsea FC Women will begin the defence of our Barclays FA Women’s Super League title today as we meet Manchester United and Guro Reiten is expecting a tough battle against the Red Devils.

The Blues will start our 2020/21 league campaign this afternoon with a difficult encounter against a strengthened Man United side, with the additions of Lucy Staniforth, Ona Batlle and Ivana Fuso.

The away match kicks off at 2.30pm and is being shown live on BT Sport. For more information, read our Chelsea v Man Utd match preview here.Reiten was involved in both of our games against Casey Stoney’s United last season as the Blues clinched narrow 1-0 victories over our opponent and the Norwegian international is anticipating today to be another challenging task.‘It’s going to be a really tough one, we struggled there last season,’ Reiten admitted.‘They are a great team but we have prepared well. We have been working on ways we can stop them but we have mostly been focusing on ourselves because if we play at our highest level we know we can beat them.’

Chelsea got off to a good start with a 2-0 triumph over title rivals Manchester City in last weekend’s FA Women’s Community Shield at Wembley. The 26-year-old revealed the victory has instilled a lot of confidence into the team.‘It was a great start for us and it’s not often you start a season and have the chance to win something,’ she said proudly.‘It has given us confidence that what we have been doing so far in pre-season has been good. The quality of the players that we have now is ridiculous and we just have to continue.‘For the club and for the players, it was really important to start off with a win. The club has showed that they are investing in us and so we have to deliver. It comes with a lot of pressure and so to get that start was absolutely perfect.’

Chelsea boss Emma Hayes has recruited well during the summer, bringing in extra attacking options in Melanie Leupolz, Niamh Charles, Jessie Fleming and most recently, Pernille Harder. Reiten is relishing the extra competition within the squad and believes the new additions will enhance our level of performance on the pitch.‘We have so many great players. We don’t have just 11 great players, we have two teams of great players!‘We know there are going to be games when we may struggle but we can then bring on substitutes who can change the game because that is the quality that we have right now.‘It gives us an extra confidence going into games and of course it’s a competition every single day because every player wants to play.‘The competition has raised the level in our team because we all have to be at our very best every single day, otherwise you can be out of the team.'
