Malo Gusto was introduced for the final 20 minutes of France’s 3-0 victory against Sweden in their last-32 World Cup tie in New Jersey.
Didier Deschamps’ side once again sparkled in attack, with Gusto brought on straight after Kylian Mbappe had put the French 3-0 up on 74 minutes.
Les Bleus dominated the first half, hitting the woodwork twice and forcing Sweden keeper Jacob Widell Zetterstrom into several superb saves. It was Mbappe, who had earlier had a goal ruled out for offside, that finally broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-time.
Bradley Barcola doubled France’s lead early in the second period after latching on to Michael Olise’s through pass and finishing with aplomb.
Another Olise assist set up Mbappe’s second of the game and sixth of the tournament, taking him level with Lionel Messi at the top of the goalscoring charts.
Gusto replaced Jules Kounde at right-back as France closed out the result that means they will meet Paraguay in the Round of 16 in Philadelphia on Saturday.
