After helping Chelsea claim a domestic Treble and playing a key role in England's triumph at this summer's European Championship, Blues goalkeeper Hannah Hampton has been named BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year 2025.

The 25-year-old established herself as one of the world's finest goalkeepers during the 2024/25 campaign and was a pivotal figure in the success achieved during Sonia Bompastor's first campaign at the helm.

Hampton started every Women's Super League fixture last season and kept 13 clean sheets en route to the Blues winning the title without suffering a single defeat.

She was also between the posts for our Women's League Cup final triumph over Manchester City and kept another clean sheet as we defeated Manchester United at Wembley to win the Women's FA Cup.

Hampton's form saw her included in Sarina Wiegman's England squad for the summer's European Championship, and she established herself as the Lionesses' first-choice goalkeeper heading into the tournament.

She started every game as England advanced from their group, defeated Sweden on penalties in the quarter-finals, overcame Italy in extra-time in the semis, and faced off against Spain in the final.

After that showpiece match ended 1-1, Hampton's heroics in the shootout ensured the Lionesses retained their title as European champions.

Reflecting on receiving the award, which was presented to her by Blues head coach Sonia Bompastor, Hampton said: 'I definitely didn't expect it. With all the other players nominated, I think they've all had unbelievable years. I don't think I did until the final moment when Sonia revealed the trophy.

'Winning the Euros is special. Being able to put on an England badge is a special and proud moment. You never take it for granted. Even if it's just around the hotel and you're wearing the kit, it's always a lovely moment when you've got any sort of England badge on your chest.

'At club level, the season we had last year, the Treble-winning season, it's an unbelievable achievement from the club and nothing less than what they deserve.'

Hannah was voted winner of this year’s award from a shortlist that included Aitana Bonmati (Spain and Barcelona), Mariona Caldentey (Spain and Arsenal), Patri Guijarro (Spain and Barcelona) and Alessia Russo (England and Arsenal).

Bompastor said: 'Hannah’s been incredible on and off the pitch since I joined Chelsea, she has been one of our leaders, performing really well. She has been the best goalkeeper in the world, and it’s a pleasure to present her with the trophy.'

Hampton's performances for club and country this year have also seen her awarded the Women's Kopa Trophy at this year's Ballon d'Or ceremony and be named in the FIFPro Women's World XI.

Congratulations on your latest award, Hannah!
