Hannah Hampton's birthday present arrived in the form of a clean sheet, a win against Manchester City at Stamford Bridge, and with the Blues ending the weekend sitting top of the Women's Super League table.

The goalkeeper celebrated her 24th birthday on Saturday and she celebrated in more ways than one after she kept her fifth clean sheet of the campaign to help Chelsea beat Manchester City in SW6.

It was a tightly contested encounter in West London, but quickfire goals from Mayra Ramirez and Guro Reiten late on in the game kept Sonia Bompastor's side's winning run intact. We have now won each of our league games, making our head coach the first manager to oversee victory in their opening seven WSL games.

Following the win against City and a third consecutive clean sheet in the league, Hampton hailed the Blues' defensive unit, who have conceded only three goals thus far in the WSL.

'It feels good,' Hampton said. 'Anything I can do to help the team get a win. If I don't let any goals in my end and we score goals at the other then we win the game. The team really defended a lot today.

'I think we're just all together. We know where each other are on the pitch and we know we're going to dig in for the badge and dig in for each other. You can look at everyone - from left to right and front to back - and know that everyone has your back.

'I'm always saying when you're enjoying your game then you play with freedom and you play your best. I think you can see that. We don't put pressure on ourselves. We go out and play 90 minutes enjoying what we do since we picked it up as little girls.

'When you're out in front of the fans of Stamford Bridge, it's a special occasion so you just have to enjoy every single second of it,' added Hampton.

'We knew what we had to do. We know this game isn't going to determine the title and there's still a long way to go and games to be played. But, we knew this block before Christmas was an important part of the season to pick up points when we can.

'When the games come thick and fast, it does get challenging towards the end of the season. So, we still have a long way to go and we'll keep enjoying our football. We'll take the result as a positive now and keep working in training.'
