Hampton reflected on her second WSL title since she joined the club, detailed her ambitions of ending the season unbeaten, and paid tribute to the invaluable experience of team-mate Lucy Bronze.

It was not only Bronze's goal that sealed the title-clinching victory against Manchester United on Wednesday night, but also an incredible performance from Hampton, as she made several saves to keep the home side at bay.

For the Chelsea stopper, the title celebrations represented the culmination of a whole season of hard work.

'I'm really happy,' said Hampton. 'The smile on my face says it all. I don't think I have the right words to use at the minute to put it all into perspective what we have just achieved. But I'm over the moon.

'Coming to this club, I always wanted to win trophies. The fact that I can say that I've come to the club and in the two seasons I've been here we've won the WSL both times. That's very surreal for me. It never gets old as many times as we win, it never gets old. It's a feeling that you want to work towards the whole time.

'It's what puts all the hard work and all the effort of the whole season into perspective, that we've now won the WSL again. But that's not the end for us. We still have two games left and we want to keep the season unbeaten and we want to go and hopefully get the treble against United again [in the Women's FA Cup final].'

The win against Manchester United came just days after the team suffered the disappointment of exiting the Champions League at the hands of Barcelona at the semi-final stage.

Yet Hampton explained exactly how the players quickly recovered their morale, as well as detailing ambitions to win the treble when we face the Reds again at Wembley in the FA Cup final on Sunday 18 May.

'I think we just knew that we had to bounce back,' the 'keeper continued. 'The tie against Barca wasn't the Chelsea that we wanted to portray to everyone. I think everyone could see that we weren't ourselves, we weren't playing as a team.

'It affected us. We didn't get through. We didn't get to that final. It's always going to be the aim of ours next season. Obviously, we want to beat Barca, let's be honest.

'But for us to be able to bounce back today and win the WSL with games to spare, it shows the character and the resilience of this team and what we've had for the whole season. We back each other on and off the pitch. You saw that today, the fight that the girls had to make sure that we've got a clean sheet and got the win over the line.

'I don't know if it [the win over Man Utd] gives us confidence or if it gives us questions we all need to solve. They were a tough opponent for us today. They've conceded the least amount of goals in the whole season. Their defensive line and Phallon [Tullis-Joyce] have had an unbelievable season. It's difficult. She made it hard for us to score again tonight. You could see with all her amazing saves.

'We know it's going to be tough again in the cup final. I think it gives us more questions on how we can make it easier for ourselves. But of course, you're going to take the confidence from this win. But we also know that they're going to want to fight back and they're going to want to prove that they can beat us.'

It was Lucy Bronze that scored the goal which sealed the title at Leigh Sports Village, her flicked header finally beating the resolute backline on the night.

Hampton took the time to praise her experienced team-mate, explaining exactly how Bronze's experience helps the team achieve our lofty aims, before revealing why she is keeping her feet firmly on the ground despite some exciting times to come in the near future.

'I only realised [that Bronze had scored] when they announced it, to be honest,' said Hampton. 'She's so humble in everything she does. She never takes credit, she never wants the credit. She's been a rock for us this season in the team. I think her tactical awareness and understanding of the game is honestly second to none for all of us.

'And it helps us in so many ways. Like, I know if I'm standing on the pitch, I just have to ask Luce a question and she'll be able to answer it and give me the solutions that I need.

'I always like to just take one game at a time or one day at a time. Really live in the moment. Embrace the moment. I just know that I'm playing my best football and I'm enjoying it and that's about not looking too far ahead.

'I'm not putting any pressure on myself and I'm just going out there and having a fun time with my teammates.'
