Chelsea FC Women manager Emma Hayes and Blues duo Fran Kirby and Melanie Leupolz have been nominated for January’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League Manager and Player of the Month awards.

Hayes led her Chelsea side to league victories over Reading, Manchester United, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur in a month that also saw the Blues secure a Continental League Cup quarter-final win away at Manchester City. The Blues netted an impressive 15 goals and kept a clean sheet in three of our four league fixtures throughout January, a run of form which has put Chelsea top of the WSL.Fran Kirby started 2021 in style as she netted four times against her former club Reading, helping the Blues earn a 5-0 win at the Madejski Stadium. The England forward then scored the winner a week later in our 2-1 victory over Manchester United as Chelsea equalled the record for the longest unbeaten streak in WSL history.

German international Leupolz joined the Blues in the summer and her stand-out performances throughout last month have shown exactly why Hayes added Leupolz to her squad. While the Chelsea boss may have brought Leupolz in for her ability to be aggressive in midfield and break up play, in recent weeks the 26-year-old has proved she also has an eye for goal.Leupolz netted the opener in our Continental League Cup quarter-final triumph over Manchester City and bagged a brace in our 4-0 victory over London rivals Spurs at Kingsmeadow. The midfielder got the ball rolling with a 30-yard stunner before completing the scoring in a memorable derby win when she converted from the penalty spot.
