The Blues are unbeaten in the 2020/21 league campaign thus far having won four and drawn two, which stretches our undefeated streak to 27 games in the WSL. We currently sit in third place behind Manchester United and Arsenal, with one game in hand. This month Chelsea comfortably won against fellow title contenders Everton and drew against London rivals Arsenal.

Hayes’ side hosted Everton at Kingsmeadow and came away with a commanding 4-0 victory, avenging the quarter-final FA Cup defeat against the Toffees in September.

Ji So-Yun struck brilliantly early on and although we took our time to make our domination count, Bethany England secured a triumph with two quick-fire goals, and Harder notched a late thunderbolt. Not only did the win extend our longest unbeaten run in the league, but it also took us to 11 WSL home wins on the bounce.

Our next league game was a London derby away to Arsenal on the annual Women’s Football Weekend. It was a close-fought London derby with clear-cut chances few and far between, but there was a frantic end to a match that sparked into life in the final 10 minutes.

The Gunners’ Beth Mead poked home with four minutes remaining and just as our unbeaten run looked as though it was going to come to an end, we responded almost instantly when Pernille Harder’s cross came off Lotte Wubben-Moy and looped into the back of the net beyond Arsenal’s keeper.

Harder, who joined the Blues from Wolfsburg ahead of the season, has settled well into the Chelsea squad and English football. The Denmark skipper has featured in all six WSL games since her arrival in September.

The 28-year-old started in both league matches throughout November and played a key role in both games. Harder kept Everton’s defence busy with her clever runs and she capped off her superb performance with a spectacular left-footed strike from range. She also rescued us a point in the dying moments of our clash with Arsenal when she showed great determination to charge up the pitch to deliver a cross into the box, where fortune met it and the ball spooned up off the boot of the defender to sail into the far corner.
