Emma Hayes has said it’s likely she will rotate her squad for tomorrow’s WSL clash with Liverpool at Kingsmeadow.
The Blues enter a mammoth run of games, facing the prospect of six fixtures across the next three-and-a-half weeks, with Emma highlighting how she will look to use the full depth of his squad to help manage the load.
One player who recently returned to action following a lengthy spell on the sidelines through injury is Pernille Harder, with Hayes hinting at further action for the forward during this busy spell.
‘Rotation is something we have to look at purely because of how many important games we have coming up,’ Hayes said at her pre-match press conference.
‘We haven’t flogged the same 11 players all year, we’ve rotated often and I suspect that will be the same for this final block given the run of games we have.
‘We’ve got players coming back, we’ve been missing a lot of good attacking options. Pernille Harder is back and that will really help us in this final block of games.
‘We’ve got a lot to play for and we have to keep grinding until the end to see what rewards we can get.’
With six games, including an FA Cup final, to come during the month of May, Hayes accepts that there will be a need to keep pushing the team and ensuring they maintain their focus levels, starting with a tricky rearranged home clash against Liverpool tomorrow night after the original fixture was abandoned just six minutes in due to a frozen pitch.
‘Absolutely it’s going to be a gruelling 24 days for us,’ said Hayes.
‘For whatever reason we’ve not quite mastered how clubs who are in every competition literally have so many games stacked up on the back of one another, while other clubs who aren’t in all the competitions have none.
‘It’s a tough balance trying to manage that balance for the whole league. The fact we’ve not played in the WSL for a month says so much but at the same time, I don’t know where we could have played in that time. It’s a scheduling nightmare.
‘Having said that, we just have to focus on the run of games that we’ve got coming up and we’ve just got to keep chipping away to get points on the board.’
