A 1-0 win at Tottenham Hotspur has put Chelsea top of the Women's Super League table ahead of the final day of the season - and Emma Hayes feels nothing but pride for her team.

Maika Hamano's goal in the 37th minute against Tottenham secured the win we needed to take us top of the table - level on points with Manchester City but with a two-goal advantage - ahead of our final fixture against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Hayes said she was especially happy with the first-half performance at Brisbane Road, but at full-time was beaming with pride as she praised her players for pushing until the very end.

'I said to everybody, "If you get a second chance in life make sure you don't need a third'", said Hayes. 'I love that we take it to the last game. No matter the outcome, I'm super proud of this team's ability to keep finding ways in the adversity we've faced this year. I'm so proud.'

There have been setbacks this season but Hayes believes the character of her squad has prevailed throughout, and it's why we are in pole position to retain out title ahead of the final day.

'We keep our cool and we will find a way to keep performing no matter the pressure,' added the Blues manager 'That's the thing I will remember most.

'I'll remember the ability of the human beings to keep finding a way even when people write you off or you think if you have any more to give. I love that we are still finding a way after four titles in a row.'

Hayes was also delighted with the performance of our match-winner, describing Hamano as the 'future' of Chelsea.

'She is Chelsea's future,' added Hayes. 'I'm so happy to keep evolving this team. I've said 1000 times that I am leaving the new manager a fabulous team.

'Maika Hamano has been outstanding in training and smashing goals in all week. She was deserving of her start tonight.'
