Jordan Henderson has explained why the quality of team-mates around him means he is loving life at Chelsea after making his own mark on the pitch in our consecutive wins over Bournemouth and Everton.
The midfielder’s introduction to the Chelsea supporters was delayed by an arm injury picked up with England at the FIFA World Cup in the summer, but he has been more than making up for lost time since his return to action.
After marking his home debut with two goals and an assist – the first of those goals coming with just one minute on the clock – in the 5-1 win over Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge, he helped us to victory again as we defeated previously unbeaten Everton 2-0 on Saturday.
'I'm loving playing football at the minute,’ beamed Henderson after recording back-to-back wins with the Blues for the first time.
‘I’ve come back in the last month or so from my injury and it’s an absolute privilege and honour to be playing with some of the players in this team.
'I'm just enjoying it, working with them every day and playing with them out on the pitch. There's some top quality, top talent, here, and I really feel like the team's beginning to take shape in terms of the togetherness and everything.
'There's been a lot of new change in the summer – new coaching staff and players coming in – but I really feel that the togetherness is coming, not only in training during the week on the field, off the field as well. That's going to be important for us going forward and I'm loving every second of it.'
Henderson won’t be resting on his laurels after those consecutive Premier League victories, though, as he knows there is still plenty more this Chelsea team is capable of if we continue developing under Xabi Alonso.
‘I know we've still got a lot to improve on as a team, but I feel as though in the last couple of weeks we're going in the right direction,’ he added.
‘So, we'll go back to the training ground and keep working hard for the next game.’
