Jordan Henderson was delighted to continue building momentum by recording back-to-back Premier League victories, with a first clean sheet in that competition to boot.

Having brushed Bournemouth aside with an emphatic 5-1 victory at Stamford Bridge last week, Chelsea took that form on the road to inflict Everton’s first defeat of 2026/27, that 2-0 win also our first ever at their new Hill Dickinson Stadium home.

With consecutive league wins in our pocket, which lifted us above the Toffees and into fourth in the Premier League standings, Henderson was left understandably satisfied with a job well done by the Blues on Merseyside on Saturday.

‘I thought it was a good performance and a good result in the end,’ said the midfielder. ‘Three points is always vital for us, especially away from home against a tough team who were unbeaten this season.

‘We knew it was going to be a difficult game, but I really liked the performance. I thought defensively we looked solid and we created some good chances to score two nice goals. Overall, I think it was a good day.

‘We wanted to back up last week by going there and putting on a good performance and getting the win, which we did.’

That sense of satisfaction is only enhanced by the feeling that Chelsea are finding the balance that Xabi Alonso had called for, by adding defensive steel to our free-scoring attack, with seven goals scored to one conceded across our last two matches after Saturday’s shut-out.

‘A clean sheet is always important and I know we haven't had enough of them for a while,’ he continued. ‘So to get one is nice, but I thought that overall our defending from start to finish was good.

‘I don't think we gave them too many chances at all, so that was really pleasing. We could have maybe scored one or two more goals, but overall I thought we controlled the game well and it's just about keep building and keep working.’

Henderson also had words of support for Emiliano Martinez, who was stretchered off the field against Everton and later underwent successful surgery on a fractured jaw, wishing our goalkeeper a speedy recovery.

‘All the lads and everyone will be thinking of him, of course, and texting him. So fingers crossed he can be back with us pretty soon because he's a really important figure, not only on the pitch but around the dressing room.’
