The two top-scoring sides in the Women’s Super League this season go head-to-head today at Kingsmeadow.

Chelsea Women and Manchester United Women both have 38 goals to their name although the teams are separated by points and games played, with Man U having one more than us in both those columns.

It leaves this contest, which kicks off at 12.30pm and is live on the BBC, wonderfully poised and one everyone is looking forward to, as confirmed by Chelsea’s assistant coach Paul Green.

‘It's going to be a great atmosphere,’ he says. ‘A complete sell-out at Kingsmeadow, our Game for Equality, which is a good chance to celebrate all the good inclusion work that we've been doing throughout the season.

‘The United fans are going to add to a terrific atmosphere. We've got a very good home record. They've got a good away record. Something's going to have to give and I'm sure it's going to be a great spectacle. We've historically done well against United and we'll be looking to try and do the same this weekend.’

Of Man United’s 38 league goals, eight have been scored by England international Alessia Russo, a total that compares favourably with those of our own top scorers in the competition, Sam Kerr and Fran Kirby who both have six.

‘We obviously know Alessia very well,’ says Green. ‘She was a youth player who came through the system here.

‘Unfortunately, we couldn't offer a contract at that time because she wasn't old enough to get one and she went to the States to do her education out there. Then when she came back she went to United. We know she's a very talented player. She's done very well for them. Of course she's going to be a threat in this game but Manchester United are not just down to one threat, they have threats all over the pitch, similar to what we have.

‘As a team we're going to have to defend well across the whole unit, from front to back, and that is what we will be looking to do to keep Alessia and the rest of the United squad quiet.’
