England Under-20s, with two Chelsea players in the side, have made it through to the last-16 stage of the FIFA World Cup for their age group with a game to spare.

The Young Lions beat Uruguay 3-2 on Thursday night with Bashir Humphreys opening the scoring.

The Chelsea defender, who has been on loan in Germany, headed in a corner powerfully midway through the first half with Tottenham’s Alfie Devine doubling the lead before half-time. Although Uruguay pulled a goal back not long after the restart, Darko Gyabi of Leeds restored the two-goal advantage deep into added time before England’s opponents scored their second even later.

Harvey Vale again captained the side while Ted Sharman-Lowe was on the bench.

England complete the group stage against Iraq on Sunday.
