The Blues are back in pre-season action this evening, with Frank Lampard’s side travelling to Austria to take on RB Salzburg.
Chelsea head into the clash fresh off the back of a 4-3 win against Reading at the weekend, with Mason Mount netting twice along with Ross Barkley and Kenedy.
The Blues have performed well this pre-season, with victories over St Patrick’s Athletic and Barcelona coming before the win at the Madejski Stadium.
All eyes are turning towards the start of the new Premier League season, which kicks off against Manchester United on Sunday 11 August.
Before that, the Blues have two more pre-season fixtures to partake in, with both games available to be viewed live either via the official Chelsea website or our 5th Stand app, and we take an in-depth look at RB Salzburg below…
Who’s in charge?
Jesse Marsch
The American was named head coach of Salzburg this summer, replacing Marco Rose who left to join our weekend opponents Borussia Monchengladbach.
Marsch arrives having spent time in charge of MLS sides Montreal Impact and New York Red Bulls, as well as also working as an assistant coach of the USA national side and RB Leipzig, prior to his move to Austria.
Key player
Andreas Ulmer
The club captain is a vastly experienced campaigner and has clocked up well over 250 appearances for Salzburg. Ulmer is a dependable left-back who has also been capped at international level for Austria.
The 33-year-old has won six Austrian Bundesliga titles, five with Salzburg and one with former side Austria Vienna.
One to watch
Takumi Minamino
A clever forward, Minamino is capable of playing in a number of attacking roles whether that is leading the line or dropping in and playing as a ‘False 9’. The Japanese frontman has lifted five Austrian titles with Salzburg, as well as four Austrian Cup triumphs.
The 24-year-old has made over 100 appearances for Salzburg since joining in 2015, having arrived from Cerezo Osaka where he played alongside former Atletico Madrid striker Diego Forlan. Minamino is a full Japanese international and has five goals at senior level to his name.
