It may have taken longer than expected - both because of a two-hour weather stoppage and extra-time - but Chelsea produced what Enzo Maresca described as one of their best performances of the Club World Cup to defeat Benfica 4-1.
Chelsea were completely dominant in the opening 85 minutes of Saturday's game at the Bank of America Stadium and it looked as though Reece James' inventive free-kick had sent us through to the quarter-final of the Club World Cup with minimal fuss.
However, a severe weather warning saw the match delayed for almost two hours and when play resumed, Benfica were awarded a controversial penalty in injury-time, which Angel Di Maria converted to send the match to extra-time.
A red card for Gianluca Prestianni early into the additional-time helped the Blues regain the control they had shown for the majority of the match and there were jubilant scenes when Christopher Nkunku put us back in front on 108 minutes.
There was to be more drama as Pedro Neto and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall provided composed finishes to round off a deserved win and a match which had spanned almost five hours.
