Sophie Ingle insists Chelsea’s painful defeat to Barcelona in the UEFA Women's Champions League will not affect our focus in our bid to retain our Women's Super League title.

Emma Hayes's side suffered a disappointing exit from European competition on Saturday as Barcelona advanced to the final of the Champions League after a 2-1 aggregate victory in our last-four tie.

We return to domestic matters this evening and there is work to be done in the WSL. With four league fixtures to play, we sit six points adrift of leaders Manchester City but with two games in hand.

While defeat to Barcelona was undoubtedly a bitter blow, Ingle is confident the group can respond in the right fashion against Liverpool.

‘It’s about sticking together now, even more so than normal,' she says. 'We have a great group of players who really want to push on and be successful. Of course, there are going to be setbacks but what this squad is good at is not letting those affect us.

‘We push on together, support each other, look at the small details of how we can improve and are always ready to fight again for ourselves and each other.’

After our trip to Merseyside, the Blues welcome Bristol City to Kingsmeadow on Sunday for what will be Hayes's last home game as Chelsea head coach.

There will be little turnaround time between the two fixtures but Ingle believes that will be a help rather than a hindrance.

‘Playing so soon after a setback is always the best thing for us as a squad,’ she explains. ‘We don’t have time to dwell, and we can hopefully move on quickly and put in a good team performance against Liverpool.’
