Lauren James fills us in on her footballing journey and how she likes to spend her time behind the scenes.
Having trained in the Chelsea Academy from Under-10 to Under-14 level, James later signed for the Blues as a professional at the start of the 2021/22 campaign.
The talented forward put pen to paper on a new contract in March, keeping her with us until 2030. We sat down with LJ to delve into what makes her tick on and off the pitch.
Could you start by telling us where you grew up and what it was like?
I grew up in Richmond. It's cool; it's nice there.
What age did you start playing football?
I think about four or five.
What was the name of your first grassroots team?
Epsom Eagles, it was a boys' team.
How old were you when you first joined an academy?
I was six when I joined the Chelsea Academy.
Who's been the biggest influence on your football career to date?
Emma Hayes.She's just always been there for me, and even when she's not my manager, she's just like a mentor. I think of her as family.
What's been your career highlight to date?
Winning the Euros with England.
Who are your best friends in football?
Kadeisha Buchanan. And I've really started to bond with Melvine (Malard), too.
Could you name your top three favourite players of all time?
I'm going to go with Pele, Diego Maradona and Romario.
Have you got any nicknames?
Just LJ.
What do you like to do away from football? How do you switch off?
Shopping, going for food. I just like to chill with good company.
Are you watching any TV series currently?
I don't watch telly! Instead, I sleep, talk to my friends on the phone, go for a walk...
If we looked at your Spotify playlist, who's dominating your most played artists of the year?
Probably Asake. I like Afrobeats.
What are your top three holiday destinations, either that you’ve been to or want to visit?
Turks and Caicos Islands. Dubai. I'd just say those two, because I like going to the same places!
If you had guests over for dinner, what would you cook for them?
Fajitas or chilli con carne.

Never listen to the opinions of people you wouldn't want advice from.

Everything. It's literally my life.
