With the Barclays Women’s Super League season a few weeks old, domestic football takes a pause with several Blues due to represent their countries during the upcoming international break.
The inaugural UEFA Women’s Nations League continues with 14 Blues taking part in the next set of fixtures, which begin on Friday 27 October and conclude on Tuesday 31 October. England, Germany, Norway, Scotland, Serbia, Sweden and Wales will all be in action.
Further afield, Australia are involved in Women’s Olympic Qualifying, while Canada and the United States are preparing for respective double-header friendly fixtures. Let’s take a look at which Blues will be lining up for their nations across the globe…
UEFA Women’s Nations League
Six Blues will link up with the Lionesses for two games against Belgium. Leicester is the venue for the match on home soil before a trip to Leuven for the away fixture. Fran Kirby makes a welcome return to the squad alongside Millie Bright, Jess Carter, Niamh Charles, Lauren James and Hannah Hampton.
Ann-Katrin Berger and Sjoeke Nusken have been called up for Germany with Melanie Leupolz now retired from international duty. The Germans take on Wales before a meeting with Iceland, while Sophie Ingle’s side come up against Denmark in their second fixture of the international window.
Maren Mjelde will fly the flag for Norway as they prepare for their double header against France, and Erin Cuthbert is back in the Scotland squad for matches home and away against the Netherlands.
World Cup bronze medallists Sweden will take on Switzerland and Italy with Zecira Musovic and Johanna Rytting Kaneryd in the squad, while Jelena Cankovic will represent Serbia, who play back-to-back matches against Poland.
Long-haul Blues
Sam Kerr will lead Australia as they begin their quest to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games with a training camp and three Asian Qualifiers matches against Iran, the Philippines and Chinese Taipei in Perth.
Our Canadian trio of Kadeisha Buchanan, Ashley Lawrence and Jessie Fleming will take on Brazil in an international friendly double-header, the first of which takes place in Montreal. The second will be played in Halifax.
Mia Fishel has earned another call-up to the United States squad for their international friendly double-header against Colombia, with these games taking place in Utah and Fishel’s place of birth, San Diego.
