Mason Mount was among the goals as England recorded a hard-earned victory over Albania in the latest round of World Cup qualifiers, while Christian Pulisic netted a penalty for the USA against Northern Ireland.

Chelsea midfielder Mount scored England’s second in the 2-0 win with a composed finish just after the hour mark, adding to Harry Kane’s opener for the Three Lions.

It was Mount’s fourth goal in England colours and helped settle the nerves in this tricky qualifier against a robust Albanian side.

Mount’s Chelsea team-mates, Reece James and Ben Chilwell, were both among the substitutes while Armando Broja, currently on loan at Vitesse, led the line for Albania until being replaced just before the hour mark.

Meanwhile Christian Pulisic captained the USA to a friendly victory over Northern Ireland at Windsor Park, with the Chelsea forward netting from the spot in their 2-1 win.

Pulisic earned the penalty himself, after being bundled over in the area, and Christian made no mistake from 12 yards. His goal came after Giovanni Reyna had handed the States a first-half lead, before Niall McGinn pulled one back for the hosts with just a couple of minutes remaining.

Elsewhere, Andreas Christensen watched on from the bench as Denmark recorded a big victory over Moldova. The Danes were 5-0 up at half-time before adding a further three in their resounding 8-0 win.

Earlier today, Kurt Zouma put in an assured performance at centre-half as he helped France to a comfortable 2-0 away win against Kazakhstan.

The Chelsea defender performed well as Les Bleus got up and running in their World Cup qualifying group, following a 1-1 draw with Ukraine in Paris on opening day. Olivier Giroud was an unused substitute for Didier Deschamps’ side, while N’Golo Kante returned to Chelsea earlier this week for treatment on a hamstring injury.

Zouma and Giroud will both hope to feature for France on Wednesday when they travel to face Bosnia and Herzegovina in another World Cup qualifier.

Elsewhere, Baba Rahman scored as Ghana defeated Sao Tome and Principe 3-1 in Accra as the Black Stars confirmed top spot in their AFCON qualifying group.
